Deporting American citizen children of illegal immigrants is neither new policy nor heinous. If an illegal immigrant has a child in the U.S., there are three options: 1) deport both, 2) allow the parent to stay on account of the child, 3) deport the parent and separate the child. Does anyone doubt that #3 would result in howls of protest about breaking up families? Apparently, #2 is what the critics want. How is "have a baby here and you get to stay forever" meaningfully different from open borders?

The current policy as I understand it is that the child is deported with his parents, but on reaching age 18 is free to return to the U.S. Again, this is long-standing policy; once again Trump is maligned for doing what his predecessors have done. There are many Trump policies to legitimately complain about; this is not one.
